This film is about Kabir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) the ex-Captain of the Indian Hockey team, who had to retire in disgrace and was soon forgotten. He has now come back in a new avatar as the Coach of the Indian Women's National Hockey team - a team that exists more on paper and less in reality.
The team is a rag-tag bunch of girls with their own agenda. They have forgotten what it's like to play for the love of the game, of playing because you want glory for your country. They have never known the thrilling energy of being Team India. Never known the delirious joy of lifting a trophy that has your country's name on it! Kabir believes that if only the girls played as one, anything would be possible.
Chak De India is the story of a coach's fight to build Team India, by encouraging the girls to overcome their diverse backgrounds, take adversity in their stride and turn it into a secret weapon to strengthen their spirits.
